Overview

The OAuth protocol is used by service providers to offer a secure method for their customers to allow third parties controlled access to the resources stored on their sites without sharing their personal credentials with them. Aurea Monitor Intermediary can act as both the server hosting the protected resources and an OAuth authentication server using its own implementation of the protocol to protect the access point.

While there are several other user directory services that provide OAuth implementations to authenticate users against their directories, such as Google, but they cannot be plugged in as the authentication provider to an Intermediary installation - it is using its own implementation of the protocol. External OAuth implementations can only be used through custom OAuth plugins.
