Instrumenting Tomcat on a server where there is an already instrumented service

Overview

You would like to know that when installing Tomcat on a server that is running an already instrumented software (that is visible under Configure -> Network -> Nodes), do you need to follow all the steps as described in the Interceptor User Guide for Tomcat instrumentation? Or any service (eg. a Tomcat server) that is added to the machine in which we have Monitor Agent will be auto-detected?

Solution

You will need to instrument your Tomcat server as described in the Interceptor User Guide, despite being installed on a server where there is already an instrumented service and a running Monitor Agent. Instrumentation is not done automatically and is different for each service. That is why your Tomcat is not added automatically (it is not instrumented automatically).

Once your Tomcat gets instrumented it will be visible in the Network Pane under the same Node as the already instrumented service (or software).

The Interceptor User Guide is available on Worx.
